memorized any of the verses in there, but realized that some things actually stayed with me these couple of years. This time round, still a few good reminders came up…“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking in anything.”
Indeed, it is a deliberate choice we make, to “consider” the trials we face with joy. It is not natural, and we must, in light of the work that the testing do for us, embrace them. It is not an emotional crutch nor simplistic resolution to the pain we face during trials, but if we trust our Father’s heart, we find strength in the wonderful encouragement that in all things He is bringing us to maturity in Christ.
Persevere on Christian! Consider it joy :)
“Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror, and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.”
This verse never fails to come in my mind when I look into the mirror, on good days :p Indeed, how much attention we pay to our physical looks! When there is a mirror, we will be tempted to look in it, and when we do, we will observe how we look and attempt to fix a stray hair or fix a zit. heh. Pray tell that we will look with equal keenness into the Word- the mirror of our hearts. And when we do, to allow it to shine light into our dark hearts and be willing to repent.
“Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my faith by what I do. … You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did.”
“But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.”
Daddy, I want this wisdom that comes from You!
“You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Instead you ought to say, ‘If it is the Lord’s will, we will live and do this or that.’ ”
Indeed I am but a vapor in the wind, a flower that withers in the rain, a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Who am I that the Lord of all should know? Who am I that You should seek to be known by? Yet You love me, gave Your life for me and call me Yours. Thank You Lord, thank You. Help me God to live as You will.
