Megan had been lying wide-eyed on her bed for the whole night. She did not expect it to disturb her so bad nor the pain so excruciating. She thought she knew what it was like, she thought she prepared herself for it, she thought she would be able to handle it. She was wrong. Saying goodbye had left her breathless yet she cannot bear to take another breath, her world was spinning so fast under her feet she cannot stand straight. Leaving the past made her feel like a part of her had died. The treasured marbles of memories preciously polished over the years were strewn mercilessly across the cold hard floor.
Megan, be strong, you can handle this. Grandma would be heart-broken if she saw you this way. But now she needs Grandma to help her make sense of her pain, and tell her she can survive this.
Child, look inside and you’ll see the pearl that’s been refined by the tides, look outside and be awed at the light you’re bringing to the shores. Look back, find and affirm the diamond that shone in the dark nights; look ahead and embrace the days with all you’ve got. Every cloud has a silver lining, every rainbow its pot of gold. Every pain brings its gain and every dawn a new morn. Be strong baby, I’ll always be here for you.
