Something I’ve come to appreciate about the Americans. As compared to the Europeans and Asians, they are ever so ready pluck themselves out of home and move to a foreign land- and have a much greater capacity for diversity. Almost every American I have spoken to over the past two months have moved from their home state, spent time in many other American states, and years in some other parts of the world.
Perhaps this has to do with their culture of leaving home at a young age (a sign of growth, adulthood and independence), such that “moving around & uprooting” does not seem as daunting to them it does to a typical Asian. But nevertheless, such a mindset is so helpful for Gospel work. They are just so willing to be taking the Gospel to far away lands.
And it just challenges my fixated “home-body” notion. Not that Singapore has been taken out from me, or that being with my loved ones mean anything less to me, or I have grown to love the idea of living and working in a foreign land. But rather simply that living elsewhere is no longer “as big a deal” and actually such a prospect can be so interesting and enriching and inviting.
Moreover, wherever you are in this big big world that Daddy has created, you can do your part to advance His kingdom! So where is home, stranger in this land, alien to this world?
Am growing to love my time in Beijing really. Feeling like a part time missionary- have a small group on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday. Though not leading studies and all, but just thankful He’s used me in small small ways- truly humbled to be part of His BIG GRAND design for all creation and of which in human history His work in Beijing- July 2006 till xxx :p
There’s so so much to be done here, and I wish I had a longer time frame to work with so I can start a small group here or read the Bible with some girls, but will do the best I can and work with what I have for now!
Heard that there are 1000 over churches being planted in India each year, maybe I shall go ask if the Bangalore office needs help wahaha…
But hey you there in Singapore, never underestimate the young lives you are touching k coz they may be going to places some day. Entrust the Gospel with the young lives as it was entrusted to you, you never know where they can take the Gospel to!! So keep plugging on!!
